Exactly How To Set Up A Ceiling Fan All By Yourself

Do you have a bedroom that could utilize a ceiling fan to cool it down? Its not really difficult to install a ceiling fan by yourself if you are considering to replace a light fixture. All of the cabling will already be around, so the only challenge will be replacing the existing workbox with one that is accepted for the weight of a ceiling fan. It would be very deadly if you do not exchange your current workbox to something that can manage the extra weight of the ceiling fan. Before you begin your project, examine the instructions for the fan you have selected, and make sure that you have all of the necessary tools.

If you are installing the fan on the cathedral ceiling, you may require to obtain additional parts for extending the fan down lower. Given that you are all set for the real installation, be sure that the breaker is switched off, so no power is getting to the light you are swapping. After removing the current light fixture, verify to see if the installed workbox can tackle the weight of your ceiling fan. Almost all workboxes are not aimed for ceiling fans, you will need extra support. You could do this quite easily if you are able to get the light fixture from the attic.

To extra support, you nail a 2x4 in the ceiling rafters where it touches the top of the workbox. Make sure the 2x4 is anchored in its place, and then attach the box to the wood. If everything is performed properly, the excess weight of the fan will now be totally supported by the wood and the screws. If you never have access to the attic, you will have to mount metal cross bracing using the hole in your ceiling. This is tougher to do, and perhaps not as secure in the end, but will probably have to do with no attic entry.

After you have gathered the fan properly, you are now in a position to hang your fan. The difficult part is joining the wiring while retaining the fan. Relying on the fan, some come with a clinging frame, and others include a bracket with a J hook that lets you hold the motor housing. For most fans the wall switch will turn it on or off, as the chain will manage the speeds. If you also put in a light kit with the fan, the two can be controlled by a wall switch or chain.

The next task is to follow along with the wiring guidelines which are as simple as connecting two white wires, two black wires and two ground wires. Once you have completed building the fan and wires, the last step is to install the fan blades. Immediately after you connect the blades, the only thing left is to change the breaker back on to notice if you did it right.
